The Medical Research Council/ Uganda Virus Research Institute (MRC/UVRI) Uganda Research Unit on AIDS based at the Uganda Virus Research Institute, Entebbe invites applications from suitably qualified Ugandans for the post of Scientist (Project Leader). The MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS is a bilateral multidisciplinary research organisation funded by the Medical Research Council (UK), DFID (UK) and other donor organisations. We are seeking an experienced Physician Researcher to coordinate studies on the relationship between worm infections and allergy in the islands of Koome subcounty, Lake Victoria, and in the Entebbe peninsula. The work is being conducted by the Co-infection Studies Programme at the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS, in collaboration with the Vector Control Programme of the Ministry of Health.

Duties and responsibilities:
The post will be based in Entebbe at the MRC/ UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS. The successful candidate will be a key member of the leadership of the study team, involved in planning and coordination of work in the Entebbe area and in the island communities. The work involves regular visits to the island communities to lead survey work and the treatment programme. Qualifications and experience: The successful candidate should have at least 4 years’ experience in clinical or epidemiological research.

The post will suit an individual who has a medical qualification (MB ChB or equivalent) and a Master’s degree, or above, in epidemiology, public health or a related discipline, as well as proven leadership and management skills. The appointment will be for a period of 2 years in the first instance, with the possibility of extension subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.
